If we want our towns to truly thrive in a rapidly changing world, we must take deliberate steps to welcome and support young families who are ready to make this district their home. Without that next generation, we have to ask ourselves: who will serve on our boards and commissions? Who will volunteer with our Fire Department and Ambulance Service? Who will carry forward the proud tradition of farming that defines so much of our community?
We need to make it possible—and appealing—for people to stay, build their lives here, and put down roots. That means taking proactive local control over housing and ensuring that our zoning and housing policies actually work for our towns. Ignoring the issue or hoping it resolves itself will not move us forward. Instead, we must confront these challenges with practical, thoughtful solutions.
One way to attract young families into our communities is to have affordable and more available child care. Also, let’s continue to stand by our farming families by strengthening the “right-to-farm” initiatives that protect and sustain this vital part of our local economy and heritage.
If we want vibrant towns tomorrow, we must make smart, forward-looking choices today—choices that welcome young families, support working people, and preserve the traditions that make our communities so special. Together, we can ensure that the 66th District remains a place where families grow, farms flourish, and neighbors step forward to lead.
